I watched a movie where someone shot up an office to kill a single employee. The target was an ex-CIA agent with powerful enemies. However, one witness was lucky to escape.

The interesting part is, by the time the eyewitness got to the police and they came to investigate, there was no trace of the crime. The office looked perfect. It was a professional clean up job by the CIA.

Attention to Detail

Any time I remember that movie, I think of how detailed the clean up crew had to be. Filling bullet holes in the wall, replacing furniture and carpets, repainting spaces. All in a short time frame.

I had a similar feeling of precision in a 5-star hotel in Delhi. To be honest, I’ve never experienced that level of excellence or service before. I would return to my room to find my slippers perfectly aligned by my bedside. One time, I came back to find a laptop care kit with a thoughtful note. And there was none of that “Anything for the boys” attitude.

I also recall the time I visited a multinational company in Lagos. Immediately I entered the gate, I was transported to another world. From the well kept lawn to the quietness of the halls to the quality facilities.

I imagined what it must take to maintain the vast space and the many complexities that are resolved daily.

Operational Mavens

I served in an operations role for over a decade. My colleagues probably didn’t know the rigour and sacrifice in the back-end. I made it look easy.

Perhaps this first-hand experience is why I am so appreciative of those who serve. I can say, “Thank you” to a waiter many times during the course of a meal.

My Prayer for You

It takes effort to produce comfort, excellence and experiences. It’s hard, consistent and often thankless. So, today, I am inspired to pray for those who serve.

My prayer is, as you have honoured people with your time, effort and sacrifice, so will others honour you.

Because you have made lives easier through your work, may you experience beauty and comfort too.

You have demonstrated technical expertise and an intense work ethic, even when the standard in other places was low. So, may you receive compensation commensurate with your work and so much more.

May God strengthen your arms and encourage your spirit. He sees all you do and will surely reward you. Amen.

Thank you for reading.
