Human beings are independent artists. They are creative, messy, and take pride in their work. They want to leave their mark on the world and take credit for what they’ve done.
So, when God tells a human to paint a canvas, they will bring creative expression to it. The picture will be unlike what someone else might have done. And the project will be implemented through the lens of their own beliefs, biases, and internal motivations.
Challenge of Pride
Humans do not like taking instructions or being told what to do. They are intrinsically proud.
So, for the Lord to call Moses humble is an incredible and rare thing to be said of a servant of God. It is generationally distinct for a leader to embody self-deprecation and still retain power. Only the Holy Spirit could have kept the vultures in line.
Cost of Adding to God’s Plan
When God tells you to do something, and you add your own to it out of pride, you will fundamentally destroy systems and people. Although God’s essential objective will be attained, it will be accompanied by much pain to innocents.
Because God lives outside of time, He knows once a piece has been put in place, it will lead to a perfect closure overall. He can wait for centuries for the grand tapestry to be complete.
Scarcity of Willing Servants
It’s not like God has many options to work with in the first place. Not a lot of people do God’s will without asking time-delaying questions. So, He tends to use imperfect souls who are available and have a sense of urgency.
Consequences of Incompetence
People suffer when the competent don’t take on leadership roles. The baton is often passed to profane souls. Because of this, many tears will be shed and much will be lost.
When God says A, an incompetent person typically adds B, C and D. It will take many generations to unravel the collateral damage of the various additions.
Call to Leadership
If God has called you, it’s not about you. It’s about human lives. Are you scared? Like Moses, ask for Aaron. Are you worried about the inconvenience and sacrifice? Remember, you will be led by fools if you allow someone less qualified to take on the assignment instead.
Should the prospect of pain alarm you, it’s only for a brief moment. Your time on earth is but a puff of smoke. But your obedience will reverberate throughout eternity, where you will be there to enjoy a job well done.
God is calling a new generation of leaders who will prioritize him and act with a sense of urgency. Will you answer the call or will you be overwhelmed by the state of the world?
