Here’s a challenge: In Nigeria, it’s not enough to be good at what you do. You must be good and political; good and cultural; good and tolerant of deeply disturbing mediocre shit.

When the emotional pressure becomes too much, many good people simply give up and become bad.

You cannot survive and thrive in Nigeria without a tribe that validates and upholds a set of shared values. Riding solo doesn’t work. Too many forces will come against you.

Nigeria doesn’t have a popular narrative that places a premium on excellence. The main narrative is power. Build a power base for your own sake; preferably one that extends beyond Nigeria.

Study case studies of transformed nations – Rwanda, Singapore, China etc. From the point of political seriousness, it took at least one generation for the change to take root and bear fruit.

Stop living your life based on Nigeria’s timetable. Change is at least one generation away from political seriousness (which we don’t have yet). It takes that long to build institutions, infrastructure and new culture. You need to wise up and create your own progress in the meantime.
