Those who have a sense of entitlement rarely enact laws which strip them of their privilege.

I remember when I lived with my parents. The housing estate enacted a law banning all commercial motorcycles from entry after 7 pm. There was no other means of transportation within the estate. So, those without cars had to trek far distances to get home after work. My home was about an hour by foot from the gate. I trekked. Even when it rained, I trekked in the mud on untarred roads. And then I remembered all the domestic servants and builders who had to trek too. That period cemented an understanding in my mind that laws must be made with the most vulnerable groups in mind.

It was in that same estate that a law to ban power bikes was being considered because of the fleeting revving noise they made. I thought it evil, considering that the people trying to enact the law didn’t consider it noise pollution to run their electricity generators all night.

It is people like those estate association members who make laws in Government. It is why you should never be absent when decisions are being made that will affect you.
